Vol. 15 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT (LAMBSTOWN, FETHARD).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state why unemployment benefit has been refused to Mr. Peter Byrne, Lambstown, Fethard, Co. Wexford.

A claim to unemployment benefit made on the 29th March, 1926, by Peter Byrne, of Lambstown, Fethard, Co. Wexford, was disallowed by the Insurance Officer under Section 7 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, on the grounds that the claimant was not unemployed. Exercising his statutory right, the claimant appealed from that decision to the Court of Referees at Wexford, which, having considered the matter, recommended that the claim should be disallowed. The Insurance Officer agreed with this recommendation, and in the circumstances unemployment benefit cannot be paid on that claim.

Would the Minister say what is Section 7? Is it that he had some land?

On the ground that the claimant was not unemployed.

We do not know what he was employed at.
