Vol. 16 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLIGO DRAINAGE.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the large amount of unemployment and distress in Co. Sligo, he has in contemplation the carrying out of any drainage scheme in the Cliffoney, Ballintrillick, or Drumcliffe areas.

The Commissioners of Public Works have received a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, from the Sligo County Council in respect of a small drainage scheme for the Ballaghnatrillick River on the County Leitrim boundary. The Commissioners have informed one of the petitioners that it will be necessary to present a petition to the Leitrim County Council also, as part of the lands proposed to be improved extend into that county. When this formality has been complied with, the scheme will be given due consideration. This is the only proposal which has been received from the Cliffoney and Ballintrillick districts.

The existing Drumcliff Drainage District was recently inspected by one of the Commissioners' engineers, and they are at present considering his report, with a view to deciding whether it is a case in which approval should be sought to the carrying out of works of restoration under the Drainage Maintenance Act, 1924.
