Vol. 16 No. 21

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - DISUSED ATHLONE CANAL.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the cause of the delay by the Board of Works, in closing the disused canal, situated in Athlone, which is at present becoming a nuisance; if he is aware that on the 20th November, 1924, the Athlone Urban District Council unanimously resolved to urge on the Government the necessity of having this work carried out in the interest of the health of the people, and if he will now have the matter expedited.

No representations have been received by the Board of Works to close the disused canal at Athlone. The dumping of refuse in this canal by the local residents is responsible for any complaints which have been received, and the Gárda Síochána are endeavouring to have this irregularity stopped.
