SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of unemployed (male and female) who applied for unemployment benefit at the Labour Exchanges, and also the total amount of unemployment benefit paid for the periods (a) 1st January, 1924, to 31st December, 1924; (b) 1st January, 1925, to 31st December, 1925; and (c) 1st January, 1926, to 31st October, 1926; and if he can state the number of persons in receipt of unemployment benefit during the month of October, 1926.

As the statistical periods fixed by the Department do not always coincide with the calendar months of the year I am unable to give the number of applicants for unemployment benefit for the exact periods required by the Deputy, but I trust that the information that is available will suit the Deputy's purpose equally well.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of persons registered as unemployed on the latest available date at each Unemployment Exchange in the Saorstát.
