Vol. 18 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTATION OF PATENT MEDICINES.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state on what conditions patent medicines such as Bow's Liniment, Berley's Phosphorus, Radiol, etc., can be imported into the Saorstát.

As the question is addressed to me, it is assumed that the Deputy refers to conditions necessitated by revenue requirements.

The question does not indicate the method of importation to be adopted, and the goods indicated may or may not be liable to Customs duty.

Special conditions attach to the various methods of importation, and liability to duty is determined by analysis of a sample from an imported consignment. It is, therefore, impracticable to supply the information by way of an answer to a parliamentary question, and it is suggested that the Deputy can obtain knowledge of the conditions in particular cases by addressing an inquiry to the Revenue Commissioners.
