Vol. 19 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BETTING TAX.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount collected under the Betting Tax from its establishment to the 25th February, 1927, and further, if he is in a position to say what has been the approximate cost of collecting the said tax; and also if he can state the number of officials engaged in the collection of this tax, and whether any new appointments have been made for this purpose, and, if so, how many.

The revenue collected in connection with the Betting Duty up to 28th February, 1927, amounts to £41,832. There is no separate record of the cost of administering the Betting Tax as distinct from the general cost of the Revenue Department. The number of officials at present employed exclusively on Betting Duty work is 23. The number of new appointments which have been made in connection with the tax is 12, all clerical staff.
