Vol. 19 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION FOR CLONMULT RESIDENTS.

SEAN O DUINNIN

asked the Minister for Finance if a sum of about £28 or £30 had been awarded by the Wood Renton Commission by way of compensation to Mrs. Mary Meade, Mrs. Johanna Carey, both widows, residing at Garrylaurence, Clonmult, and Mrs. Martin Keeffe, of Rathorgan, Clonmult. County Cork, for the burning of feather ticks, sheets, quilts, etc., their property, by British military on February 20th, 1921, the day of the Clonmult battle; whether this amount has been apportioned between the claimants or paid to any one of them, and, if not, when those persons will be paid for the losses which people in their circumstances could badly afford.

No award in favour of the persons named or any of them would appear to have been notified by the Compensation (Ireland) Commission to my Department and in the absence of an award by the Commission no payment can be made.
