Vol. 19 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF LANDS (GALWAY).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state why the Irish Land Commission have not replied to a registered letter, dated 12th February, 1927, from the tenants on the John A. Lewis Estate, Woodford, County Galway (Folio No. S. 1990), requesting the Irish Land Commission to carry out the agreement arrived at on the 21st day of June, 1926, between their Inspector and the Chairman of the Tenants' Association regarding the final settlement of this estate.

The registered letter referred to was received on the 14th of February last, and was acknowledged. The letter requested the Land Commission to send back their inspector to delimit the lands to be resold to the vendor along with the chairman of the Lewis Tenants' Association, and stated that this was on foot of an agreement arrived at between the chairman and the inspector. The latter repudiates having come to any arrangement whatsoever in regard to any such transaction. Having regard to the state of the proceedings for the purchase of the estate under the Land Act, 1923, and the negotiations pending, it was not considered necessary to send any further reply.

Would the Minister state if it is proposed to give any land on this estate to the agent of the estate, who is not a bona fide tenant?

Mr. HOGAN

I would want notice of that question. I have no idea of the particulars in regard to that estate.
