WRITTEN ANSWERS. - LEIX AND OFFALY ROAD SCHEMES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health to state the total amounts made available for road construction and maintenance work in the Counties of Leix and Offaly for year ending March 31st, 1927, showing (1) the amounts allocated from Road Fund and National Road Schemes votes and relief schemes vote (if any); (2) the amounts allowed by the respective County Councils (excluding interest on loans); and the total sum expended in each of the counties concerned up to and including March 31st, 1927.

The amounts allocated to Leix and Offaly during the year ended the 31st of March, 1927, were as follows:—

All grants are from the Road Fund. The maintenance grant is in respect of the year 1927/28. The grant of £9,387 was only notified on the 23rd ultimo. No grants were made for relief schemes. The information asked for in the second part of the question is not available in my Department, but the local officials have been asked to furnish it.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health to state the amounts which are being allocated for work in connection with the National Road Scheme for the Counties of Leix and Offaly for the year ending March 31st, 1928, and when the said amounts will be made available.

The amounts allocated for further work in connection with the National Road Scheme are Laoighis £47,321; Offaly £15,075. These grants were notified by circular letter of the 7th instant. The amounts are available whenever the county council commences work and makes application for an appropriate advance.
