Vol. 20 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CIVIL SERVANTS AND ARTICLE X.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware (a) that civil servants, claimants under Article X of the Treaty, are being detained beyond the statutory two years period of notice, and that such detention is calculated to commit the State to substantial further liability; (b) that each such claimant claims compensation for such detention, as well as a right to compensation for loss suffered by non-release; (c) that each such claimant, irrespective of salary or wages which he may at present receive, claims compensation from the date of the expiration of the statutory period of two years; (d) that numbers of claimants in anticipation of their right to be compensated and released have declined promotion, whilst many other claimants have not been considered for promotion, and are being retained beyond the two years of notice in subordinate capacities; and whether, in view of the foregoing, immediate steps will be taken to effect the release from office of such civil servants.

I can only refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to the question addressed to me by Deputy Anthony on the 28th ultimo on this subject.
