Vol. 21 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISTRESS AND UNEMPLOYMENT.

asked the Minister for Finance if any of the local authorities have applied for grants to enable them to deal with distress and unemployment, and, if so, whether he will state the result of their applications.

No applications from local authorities for grants to enable them to deal with distress and unemployment have been received in the Department of Finance during the current financial year and it is assumed that the reason for this is that the local authorities are aware that no special provision was made in the Estimates for this year for the relief of distress and unemployment.

A Vote for Relief Schemes is at present being prepared and it will be introduced next week.

Mr. BYRNE

If the Dublin Commissioners make any recommendations to the Minister between now and Christmas will the Minister see that there will be no delay in giving sanction?

Every effort will be made to deal with proposals for schemes as expeditiously as they can possibly be dealt with.
