Vol. 21 No. 5

WRITTEN ANSWER. - ELECTRICITY BOARD'S EMPLOYEES.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make representations to the Electricity Supply Board that when the Shannon scheme is completed, employees, labourers, etc., attached to the Survey Office and those at present employed by the contractors on the works who receive references stating that they have given efficient and satisfactory service, will be given preference of employment, either permanent or temporary, in the service of the Board.

While I agree that those who have given efficient and satisfactory service in the employment of the contractors should be preferred for employment in the service of the Electricity Supply Board I am reluctant to make the representations suggested by the Deputy, as the matter is one for which the Board has the entire responsibility. I have no doubt, however, that the question of giving preference to the employees referred to in the question will receive due consideration by the Board.
