Vol. 21 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POST OFFICE EXAMINATION.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can grant permission to May and Kathleen Lidierth, who have been residing in Borris, County Carlow, since 1915, to sit for the Post Office Writing Assistants' Examination from which they have been excluded as candidates by reason of their birth in England.

The determination of questions in regard to the eligibility of candidates for admission to a competitive examination for entry to the Civil Service is a function of the Civil Service Commissioners. The Commissioners inform me that they are unable from the particulars given to trace that the persons referred to have been excluded on grounds of nationality from any Civil Service competition. There has been no examination held for Post Office Writing Assistants, but there have been examinations for Female Learners and Girl Probationers in the Post Office. Perhaps the Deputy could furnish further particulars with a view to having the cases he refers to traced.
