Vol. 21 No. 7

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - MAYO OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether an old age pension was refused to Mr. John O'Donnell, Drymills, Irishtown, Claremorris, County Mayo, on the grounds that the applicant was not the statutory age; whether he is prepared to give an outline of the evidence of age put in in support of the claim; whether his Department had special inquiries made before turning down the claim, and whether he is in a position to state the nature and the result of such inquires.

It was determined on the 5th September, 1927, that this claimant was not entitled to any pension. He gave his date of birth as March, 1857, but no birth or baptismal certificate, or other definite evidence of age was produced. The children of his parents were stated to be in order of birth: Sarah, Daniel, and John (the claimant). It appeared that Sarah was married on 27th February, 1890, aged 24 years. One declarant stated that the claimant was known to him in the year 1875, and was then, as far as he could recollect, 16 years of age or so. Prior to the issue of the decision, and in view of representations made by the Deputy, the case was re-investigated, but it was not considered proved that the claimant had attained the age of 70 years.
