Vol. 21 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CUSTOMS DELAYS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that much inconvenience is caused to traders by delays in releasing goods after the payment of customs duties, and whether he proposes to take any action to minimise such delays as far as possible.

I am not aware that any inconvenience is caused to traders by delays in releasing goods after payment of customs duty, but if any such inconvenience has, to the Deputy's knowledge, arisen, and the delay was in any case due to the action of customs officials, I should be glad to have all available particulars, when I will have the fullest investigation made, and the result of such investigation communicated to the Deputy.

If, on the other hand, inconvenience of the nature indicated has arisen, and the delay is due to the action of the importers or their customs agents, e.g., the carrying companies, the remedy lies with the importers themselves or with their customs' agents undertaking the clearance of the goods.
