Vol. 21 No. 10

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - PETITION RELATIVE TO GALWAY DRAINAGE SCHEME.

Mr. SEAN BRODRICK

asked the Minister for Finance if a petition has been received from the Galway County Council under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, relative to the Shanroley and Templepark proposed drainage district; if a report has been furnished on same, and if so, what are the proposals of the Ministry in the matter.

The petition referred to was duly received from the Galway County Council by the Commissioners of Public Works, who have obtained reports on it from an Engineer and a Land Valuer. From these reports it appears that the proper way of dealing with this petition is to include it with the Hardwood and Kellysgrove and Ballinure petitions from the same county in one joint scheme. To carry out this joint scheme would be uneconomic for the land holders concerned unless substantial grants were made by both the Government and the County Council. The County Council, however, have passed a resolution from which it appears that they are not prepared to make any grant for the scheme, and it is, therefore, very doubtful whether it can proceed. The whole matter is being further investigated.
