Vol. 21 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUNMORE TOWN HALL.

asked the Minister for Finance will he state why payment of a claim awarded by Judge Wyse Power (Ref. No. 91386/8 (2)) to the Dunmore Town Hall Committee has not been made; also, why the Government Engineer has not examined the work, which is practically complete.

The delay that has occurred in this case is entirely the responsibility of the applicants. An award was made in favour of the Committee on the 10th July, 1924, subject to the condition that it should be applied in or towards erecting a new building on the site or in or towards repairing the injured building. The Committee did not comply with this condition, but subsequently applied to the Circuit Judge for a variation which would enable them to erect a building on a different site. The Judge made the desired order on the 31st March, 1926, subject to the lodgment in court by the applicants of plans of the new building. These plans were not lodged until recently, and the original order has not yet been received in my Department. A certified copy was, however, received from the applicants' solicitor on the 2nd instant. The building erected on the new site has already been inspected by an architect on behalf of the Office of Public Works, and I anticipate that payment of the award will be made at an early date, subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions regarding which a communication is being addressed to the Committee's solicitor.
