Vol. 21 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT (ARKLOW).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state the reasons why unemployment benefit has been refused to John Copeland, 4 Abbey Street, Arklow.

On a claim made on the 10th August, 1927, John Copeland, of 4 Abbey Street, Arklow, received 33 days' unemployment benefit being all the benefit he was entitled to receive on that date. After a period of employment, which terminated on the 15th October, 1927, he made a further claim to unemployment benefit, which was disallowed by the Insurance Officer on the ground that he had voluntarily left his employment without just cause. The claimant was duly notified of the decision and at the same time informed of his right of appeal to a Court of Referees, but he has not so far appealed.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there was no dispute existing in this place? The man was engaged on the Shannon scheme and he was dismissed because he would not accept a reduction in wages. The fact was that he was not allowed to put up more than two poles per day.

He has the right of appeal under the statute in that case.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary inquire into the fact whether the man was instructed that not more than two poles per day should be put up and that he could not earn more than 30/- per week under these conditions?

That is wrong.

I will give you evidence.

That is not evidence.
