Vol. 21 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIMS UNDER THE RAILWAYS ACT, 1924.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that continued dissatisfaction exists owing to the long delays in the giving of decisions upon claims for compensation by the standing arbitrator appointed under the Railways Act, 1924, and whether, if it is impossible for the arbitrator to dispose rapidly of cases in arrears because of pressure of other duties, he will take steps to have other arrangements made.

I have repeatedly stated that I have no function whatever in regard to arbitrations under the third Schedule to the Railways Act, 1924.

Would the Minister go so far as to say that he had no responsibility for the administration of the Act?

I was not asked that question. "Functions under the Act" are a different thing.
