Vol. 21 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUBLIN UNEMPLOYED MEN.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) if the names of Thomas Webb, 19 Lr. Dominick Street; J. Davis, 24 George's Place, and Michael Byrne, 40 Bolton Street, appear on the register of the Dublin Labour Exchange as having registered as unemployed; (b) how many consecutive weeks each of these men have signed, and (c) if work of any kind on any occasion was offered to any one of the above-mentioned applicants.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

The three workers named have been on and off the register in the last two years. The last continuous period of registration in each case is:—Thomas Webb, from the 31st October last to present date; James Davis, from the 26th October last to present date; Michael Byrne, from the 5th September last to the present date.

These men are labourers, a grade in which there has for a long time been a greater number of men registered than vacancies offering, and I regret that there has as yet been no opportunity of submitting their names to a prospective employer.
