Vol. 21 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CORK DISPENSARY REQUIREMENTS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether any steps have been taken by his Department to provide the residents of Rossmore village and surrounding districts with a dispensary, and if he will direct that the present hours of the dispensary in Clonakilty be altered from 10 to 12 o'clock, as at present, to 12 to 2 o'clock on the days this dispensary is open, thereby removing the great inconvenience which exists for the people of Clonakilty Union District by reason of the present unsuitable hours, especially when the Summer Time Act is in operation.

No representations have been made as regards the inconvenience of the existing dispensary hours at Clonakilty. One of the Department's inspectors has been asked for a report on the suitability and adequacy of the entire dispensary arrangements. Upon its receipt the matter will be considered with a view to any further action that may be necessary.

Is the Minister aware that over two years ago a memorial was sent up to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health signed by all the residents of Rossmore and district and forwarded by Fr. Daly, P.P., calling for the provision of a dispensary in that area? Is the Minister aware that the nearest dispensary is nine miles away and that it is a great hardship on people to have to travel that distance when they need to go to the dispensary and can he give me any assurance that steps will be taken to have a dispensary in Rossmore village.

The general position is being investigated. The position up to the present is that the circumstances apparently do not warrant a dispensary being set up in Rossmore.
