Vol. 22 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRUMCALL (WESTMEATH) ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware of the congestion on the estate of H.M. Smyth, Drumcall; whether, in the townland of Cooleighter, there are 15 families occupying uneconomic holdings; whether six of these families live in three insanitary houses; and further, whether the road to these holdings, which formerly was repaired by the landlord, has been out of repair since 1923.

The lands of Cooleighter referred to form part of the H.M. Smyth estate of 126 tenants, which is being dealt with under the Land Act, 1923. The estate as a whole would not appear to be a congested estate, but the Commissioners are aware that the majority of the holdings in the particular townland of Cooleighter are under £10 poor law valuation. When the inspector visits the lands in due course, he will inquire into the condition of the tenants.
