Vol. 22 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARMOURER - SERGEANT'S DELAYED PAYMENT.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will state the reasons for the delay in issuing payment of £8 14s. Od., due to Armourer-Sergeant Joseph A. Doyle, Army No. 16495, of Skirteen, Monasterevan, County Kildare, being the amount of additional pay due to him at the rate of 3/- per day, for the period July to date of his discharge, September 16th, 1927.

Ex-Sergeant Doyle, who was employed as an armourer on the Command Staff, Cork, received additional pay while filling a vacancy on that staff, for which additional pay was authorised. Additional pay was not issued subsequent to 21st July, 1927, as ex-Sergeant Doyle did not continue to fill a vacancy in respect of which additional pay was issuable as required by regulations.

Is the Minister aware that this additional pay was given to other armourer-sergeants since July? What are the reasons for refusing payment to ex-Armourer-Sergeant Doyle?

He no longer filled the position which additional pay was sanctioned for. There was no armourer acting on the Command Staff.
