Vol. 22 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT (WATERFORD).

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider reviewing the sentence of two months' imprisonment imposed on John McGrath and James Power, Dunhill, County Waterford, on the charge of netting hares on preserved lands, on the ground that such sentence is excessive.

I understand that the defendants mentioned were ordered to pay a fine of £3. The sentence of imprisonment is in default of payment of the fine. No petition for mercy has been presented by or on behalf of the defendants. If they think they have a case for mercy they should present a petition for mercy, setting out the facts of their case and the grounds on which they claim mitigation.
