Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why Patrick O'Connell, of Ballinamultina, Clashmore, County Waterford, was refused the old age pension, although adjudged eligible by the local Sub-Committee.

In this case it appeared that the claimant returned to Ireland on the 22nd of November, 1926, after an absence of 40 years or thereabouts in the U.S.A. It was determined that he was not entitled to any old age pension as it was not clear that he fulfilled the statutory condition as to residence.

This man sent back practically all his earnings to his own parish during that period, and should not that entitle him to the pension?

There are certain statutory requirements, and he did not fulfil those requirements.

What are the requirements? What is the section of the Act?

One requirement is that the person must have resided for a period of at least twelve years in the country since attaining the age of 50.
