Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COUNTY CLARE LOAN SUBSCRIBERS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to indicate how his Department proposes to deal with the subscribers to Dáil Eireann Loan (Internal) who have submitted claims to his Department from County Clare, but who have not receipts in respect of their subscriptions.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to Deputy Smith on the 11th November last. Subscribers resident in County Clare are dealt with in the same manner as subscribers in any other part of the Saorstát.

Mr. HOGAN

Is the Minister aware that undoubtedly great inconvenience is caused to the Dáil Loan subscribers? I have had cases brought to my notice where subscribers were told that Savings Certificates are issued from the Post Office and when they communicated with the Post Office they got an acknowledgment mentioning that their application had been forwarded to the Department of Finance. There are scores of people in the County Clare who do not know whether they are going to be paid ultimately.

The only thing subscribers can do is to make an application, and when the application has been made it will be considered and they will be duly informed of the result of the consideration. If more evidence is required they will be asked to submit that evidence.

Mr. HOGAN

I have sent in at least 30 applications, and the only reply I got was a buff-coloured post-card which reached me something like three weeks or a month ago. I have had no other communication since.

Applications are being considered with the least possible delay.
