Vol. 22 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SAVINGS CERTIFICATES FOR CO. CORK LOAN SUBSCRIBERS.

asked the Minister for Finance when he proposes to issue Savings Certificates to the following subscribers to the Dáil Loan; Miss Eileen Mary Aherne, 5 Evergreen Road, Cork, £2; Winifred Aherne, 5 Evergreen Road, Cork, £3; Patrick O'Driscoll, Mohonagh, Church Cross, Skibbereen, £1; William Quinn, Kilcoleman, Old Head of Kinsale, £5; Mrs. C.P. O'Donovan, Drominidy South, Drimoleague, £5; Thomas Sullivan, Greenmount, Ballydehob, £2; Bridget Reene, Drominidy South, Drimoleague, £1; Richard McSweeney, Greenmount, Ballydehob, £2; John McCarthy, Fornaght, Skibbereen, £1.

The Department of Posts and Telegraphs has been authorised to issue Savings Certificates to Eileen Mary Aherne and Winifred Aherne to enable them to obtain repayment of their subscriptions. An application for repayment has been received from Mr. John McCarthy, but the information contained therein is not sufficient to enable my Department to dispose of his claim. A form has been sent to Mr. McCarthy for completion and when it is returned to my Department his case will be further considered.

None of the other persons referred to in the Deputy's question has yet applied to my Department for repayment, and, as the Deputy is aware, a written application must be made by each individual subscriber before repayment can be authorised.

Is the Minister aware that two of the cases mentioned here, Mrs. C.P. O'Donovan, Drominidy South, Drimoleague, and Bridget Reene, Drominidy South, Drimoleague, have already applied on several occasions to the Department of Finance and have received cards acknowledging receipt of their communications and saying that the matter was having attention?

I am not aware of that.

That is so.
