Vol. 22 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - HAULBOWLINE DOCKYARD.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any information to show whether Vickers and Co. are negotiating with the Government with a view to taking over Haulbowline Dockyard, and, if not, whether the Minister can state what was the purpose of the recent visit of the company's representative to Haulbowline.

asked the Minister for Finance whether Messrs. Vickers and Co. are negotiating with the Government regarding the taking over of Haulbowline Dockyard, and whether a representative of the Company visited the dockyard recently, and, if so,, if he can state for what purpose.

In reply to Questions 7 and 8, Messrs. Vickers and Co. are not negotiating with the Government with a view to taking over Haulbowline Dockyard. By permission of the company, their Dublin manager, Mr. Mares, recently visited the dockyard in his private capacity for the purpose of advising the Commissioners of Public Works on certain matters relating to the plant in the dockyard.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary guarantee that no portion of the plant or machinery in Haulbowline is going to be sold to this gentleman which would render Haulbowline useless to a future Government which will not be so tied to the British Government as the present one is?
