Vol. 22 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DREDGING OF KINSALE HARBOUR.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that representations were made to his Department some four months ago regarding the urgent necessity for dredging the Harbour at Kinsale; that the Harbour Commissioners are prepared to bear a reasonable portion of the cost, and that his Department promised to send an engineer to report on the matter at an early date, and whether, in view of the importance of this work to the town and port, he will state when he proposes to have this examination made.

I am awaiting reply to a communication on the subject which was addressed to the Kinsale Harbour Commissioners by my Department on the 14th ultimo inviting the Commissioners to furnish a close estimate of the cost of the dredging which it is considered will meet the fishery requirements of the port. Until that reply has come to hand I am unable to make a definite statement on the matter.

Is the Minister aware that a communication was sent to the Board of Works some three or four weeks ago in connection with this matter asking for an estimate as regards the dredging, and is he aware that that communication appears to have been pigeon-holed?

I have nothing whatever to do with the Board of Works. I am awaiting a reply to my communication to the Kinsale Harbour Commissioners of the 14th February.
