Vol. 22 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. WRITTEN ANSWERS. - OFFALY ESTATE ALLOTMENTS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if the Irish Land Commission have yet received the report of their Inspector on the estate of the National Land Bank, Coole, Ferbane, Offaly, and whether the allottees will receive the benefit of Section 42 of the Land Act, 1927, in time to enable them to stock and crop their land for this season.

The Commissioners have directed an Inspector to prepare a scheme for the division of the lands held by the Ferbane Co-operative Farming Society, and until it has been received they are unable to say when the allottees will be put into occupation of the lands.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if it is the intention of the Irish Land Commission to require the estate of James Gilligan, Gallen, Ferbane, Offaly, for distribution to relieve the congestion that exists in the vicinity, and, if not, if he will state the reasons for not acquiring this estate.

The Land Commission made an offer to purchase the lands of James Gilligan, one of the conditions of which was that the owner should procure from the Grand Canal Company a written undertaking that they would permit the existing right of way along the canal bank (which is the only means of access to the lands) to be used by such persons as might require it consequent on the allotment of the lands, if acquired by the Land Commission. The owner was unable to obtain this undertaking, and the Land Commission discontinued the proceedings for purchase.
