Vol. 22 No. 17

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF LANDS.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he will state the reasons for the delay in acquiring and dividing the lands of Feighcullen and Kilmoney, County Kildare, on the Gishford Estate, and whether he will expedite the divisions of these lands amongst the congests in the immediate vicinity whose applications were sent in to the Department on the 1st April, 1925.

An offer is about to issue to Mrs. Gishford for the purchase of part of the lands of Kilmoney South, Feighcullen and Blakestown. There has been no unnecessary delay in dealing with the matter.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the electoral areas of Claremorris, Caraun, Crossboyne, Kilvine and Ballindine, South Mayo; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken to acquire the Castle Macgarrett Demesne, which contains 1.600 acres, for the purpose of providing economic holdings for the tenants in those areas whose valuations are under £5.

Castle Macgarrett Demesne is subject to a land purchase annuity, and the Land Commission will consider whether any action should be taken as regards it.
