Vol. 22 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TRAINING COLLEGE LAY PROFESSORS.

asked the Minister for Education if he can state the total number of full-time lay professors on the staffs of the various Training Colleges; and if he has made any actuarial estimate of the cost of providing pensions for these lay professors.

It is exceedingly difficult to determine in these cases what members of the staff can be classed as part-time and what as full-time professors. Perhaps, however, the following information concerning the salaries paid in the various colleges may be of help to the Deputy.

The salaries of the priests, brothers, nuns and others employed as Principals, Vice-Principals, Bursars and as professorial staff of Saint Patrick's Training College, Drumcondra; De la Salle Training College, Waterford and Dublin Hostel; Our Lady of Mercy Training College, Carysfort Park, Blackrock, and Mary Immaculate Training College, Limerick are as follows:—

In the case of the Church of Ireland Training College, Kildare Place, it is difficult to give suitable figures inasmuch as the work of the College is done partly by members of the College staff and partly, under a special arrangement, by professors and lecturers of Trinity College. The emoluments of the administrative and professorial staff correspond, however, generally with the salaries paid in the other colleges.

No actuarial estimate of the cost of providing pensions for members of the staffs of Training Colleges has been made.
