Vol. 22 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPROVEMENT OF UNION HALL PIER.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he is aware that the Cork County Council has allocated a sum of £300 for the improvement of Union Hall Pier, and whether, as the amount will be inadequate to cover the entire cost of improvement, he will be prepared to recommend a supplemental grant.

I have no information as to the allocation of the grant mentioned in the question. The Pier at Union Hall is in the charge of the Cork County Council, and I have not received any application for a grant from State funds towards improvements there.

Mr. MURPHY

If such an application is received by the Minister would he be prepared to consider it?

Would it not be time enough to consider it when the application is received?

Mr. MURPHY

The County Council thought that the amount mentioned would be sufficient to do the work.

The normal attitude is to wait for local application to be made. I saw by the provincial Press that such an allocation was made by the County Council, but it is not my business to go along and offer the money.
