Vol. 23 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IRISH HUNTER STUD BOOK.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that forms of application for the entry of horses in the Irish Hunter Stud Book at a fee of 5/- are being circulated; whether his Department are responsible for such forms, and, if not, whether he can give the name of the society or association issuing this book.

My attention has already been drawn to the matter mentioned by the Deputy. The Department of Agriculture are not responsible for the issue of these forms or for the publication in question, and so far as they are aware, the book referred to is not issued under the auspices of any recognised horse-breeding society. The Department have already warned Irish horsebreeders that the Stud Book in question is not recognised by the Department and that in their opinion the entry of an animal therein will not confer any benefit or advantage on the owner.

Will the Minister say what becomes of the fees collected?

Mr. HOGAN

I understand that the profits, so far as there are any, are appropriated to the use of the individual who issues the book.
