Vol. 23 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF KILDARE ESTATES.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is now in a position to state when the Land Commission intend to acquire and divide the following lands, namely, Knockaulin (Cornwall estate); Usk and Milltown (estate of Mr. George Dixon); Grangebeg (estate of Mr. George Grange); 70 acres held by Mrs. Dillon, in Mooretown; four untenanted farms in Blackhall and Calverstown (William Ashe estate); and other untenanted lands in the Ballyshannon-Kilcullen area, County Kildare, making a total of about 800 acres, amongst the sixty congest applicants whose names were sent in to the Land Commission on and since the 20th March, 1925.

As the reply to this question is a rather lengthy one, if the Deputy is agreeable, I will circulate it in the usual way in the Official Reports.

The answer is as follows:—

The position as regards the lands referred to is as follows:—

Lands of Knockaulin.—These lands are tenanted lands, comprising holdings of 174 acres, 103 acres, and 17 acres, respectively, in the occupation of three tenants, situate on the estate of F. W. Cornwall, and the question of their acquisition will be considered by the Land Commission when the Cornwall estate is being dealt with in its order under the Land Act, 1923.

Lands of Usk and Milltown.—The lands of Usk, comprising about 108 acres, are lands which have been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts and are worked by the owner, James Dixon, in connection with his home farm at Milltown. The Land Commission do not propose to take any action with regard to the acquisition of these lands.

Lands of Grangebeg, comprising about 85 acres, are held by George Grange; the Commissioners do not propose to take any action with regard to their acquisition.

The Lands of Mooretown, comprising 110 acres, held by Mrs. Rose Dillon; the lands of Calverstown Little, comprising 106 acres, held by Patrick Keatley; and Calverstown, comprising 77 acres, held by Edward Neill, are holdings which have been purchased under the Land Purchase Acts and are subject to Land Purchase Annuities; the Commissioners do not propose to take any action with regard to these lands.

Lands of Blackhall, comprising about 307 acres, are held by Wm. Ashe; the Land Commission have the question of the acquisition of these lands under consideration.

Other lands in the district are the lands of Ballyshannon Demesne, comprising 163 acres, and Carrighill Lower, comprising 132 acres, held by Thos. W. J. Price; the Commissioners do not for the present propose to take any action with regard to their acquisition.
