Vol. 23 No. 7

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION FOR SOLDIER'S DEATH.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that the only compensation received in respect of the death of her son, Volunteer Cadogan, killed while serving with the National Army, by Mrs. Mary Cadogan, Cromhave, Eyeries, County Cork, was a gratuity of £50; and whether, in view of the poor circumstances of this family, and the delicate state of health of Mrs. Cadogan, the case will be re-opened and further compensation paid.

In addition to the gratuity of £50, Mrs. Cadogan received approximately £75, by way of dependents' allowance after the date of her son's death. I regret that I cannot see my way to grant her any further compensation. When the gratuity was awarded to her my Department had information that she possessed a fair-sized farm.
