Vol. 23 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DRUMSNA LOAN FUND SOCIETY.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he will now state what steps have been taken to secure the interests of the Debenture holders in the Drumsna Loan Fund Society, as indicated already in a reply by the Minister, in respect of the irregularities in the local management of the Society; whether he will state the names of the treasurer and trustees who were communicated with in 1926; the nature of the replies he received from them, if any: whether the clerk has absconded: whether his sureties will now be made responsible for any loss sustained; whether he was detained in London at the request of the Gárda Síochána; if so, for what reason he was released; and whether the Minister can state where he is living at present.

I am not at present in a position to indicate the precise steps which the Department, in consultation with their legal advisers, may find it necessary to take to secure, as far as possible, the interests of the Debenture holders referred to. As little delay as possible will take place in dealing with the matter. The names of the treasurer and trustees are—Messrs. T.M. Flynn (treasurer), J. Moolick and P.A. Masterson (trustees). The reply received from the treasurer to the communication referred to was to the effect that a meeting of the Society was to be summoned for the purpose specified in the Department's communication. Replies to this communication were not received from the trustees. I have no information on the matters referred to in the concluding portions of the question (referring presumably to some other charge against this clerk), which should be addressed to the Minister for Justice.
