Vol. 23 No. 13

CONSTITUTION OF THE SEANAD. - BUSINESS OF THE DAIL.

Private Deputies' business will be taken at 9 o'clock.

Before we proceed with public business, I would like to have decided what business will be taken in Private Deputies' time. The Whips have been able to arrange so that the motion in my name for leave to present a petition can be taken. When the question of the Bill, which is also down for consideration this evening, comes up for consideration, we are prepared to take it when that is disposed of. Does the President intend to give the House an opportunity of discussing the report in regard to the application for a tariff on flour?

I will consider that. At the moment I am not in a position to give any time or to announce when time will be given. I presume I will be able to answer the question before we adjourn over the week-end.

I want to know from Deputy de Valera whether his giving way on the Local Authorities (Officers and Employees) Bill, means that he is claiming the right to come next in Private Members' time after a discussion on his motion dealing with the initiation of legislation?

I understood the question of the motion was arranged independent of the Bill, and that the Bill was coming in its own time.

I do not wish to stand in the way of Deputy de Valera, but there is a motion in the name of another member of this Party whom I have been unable to get at because he is in the country sick. That is why I ask Deputy de Valera whether he will insist on his right—I presume it is a right—to go on with the Local Authorities (Officers and Employees) Bill.

That is a matter for arrangement, and we would be prepared to meet other Deputies if they meet us in regard to the other matter.
