asked the Minister for Fisheries whether he will state (a) the number of applications for re-instatement in their own or other holdings received from evicted tenants or their representatives from March, 1908, to May, 1928; (b) the number re-instated in their own or other holdings during that period; (c) whether any provision has been made, or is to be made, for the re-instatement of the remainder.

The number of applications for re-instatement received from evicted tenants or representatives of evicted tenants in Saorstát Eireann from the 31st of March, 1908, to the 31st May, 1928, is 4,796. 343 of these applicants were reinstated or provided with new holdings; 691 of the applications were rejected by the Commissioners for various reasons after inquiry and consideration; and 1,068 related to evictions which took place before 1878 or to holdings to which the Acts do not apply. In addition to the 343 applicants reinstated 1,709 persons who had applied prior to the 31st March, 1908, were reinstated or provided with holdings, making a total of 2,052 reinstated or provided with holdings since March, 1908. The remainder will be considered according as the lands to which they relate come before the Land Commission under the provisions of the Land Acts, 1923-27.
