Vol. 25 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - A SLIGO RAID.

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been directed to the serious loss stated to have been sustained by Mr. John O'Grady, Everlaun, Bunninadden, Co. Sligo, following a raid on his house and farm by military and Gárda Síochána on the 6th September, 1924, as a result of which an acre of oats was trampled upon and rendered unfit for cutting and three tons of hay thrown about the haggard; and, if so, whether compensation will be given to Mr. O'Grady for the loss of his crops.

In September, 1924, the Gárda Síochána, acting on a warrant, carried out a search on the lands of Mr. John O'Grady, Everlaun. The warrant was issued on an information sworn to the effect that a bicycle had been stolen and was believed to be concealed either in a corn field or a hay rick, the property of Mr. O'Grady. The corn field was searched, and it was necessary to turn over the hay in the rick which had been built after the larceny of the bicycle. No avoidable damage was done by the Gárda, and it is not possible to entertain any claim for compensation in the matter.
