Vol. 25 No. 4

PUBLIC BUSINESS. - OIREACHTAS (PAYMENT OF MEMBERS) BILL, 1928—FIRST STAGE.

A Bill has been prepared dealing with the travelling expenses of members of the Oireachtas, enabling them to travel by 'bus or other means where trains are not available, or where the other means are more suitable than trains. I desired to have it on the Order Paper for First Reading to-day, but unfortunately it was not included. I, therefore, ask the indulgence of the House to give me leave to introduce the Oireachtas (Payment of Members) Bill, which is a Bil entitled "An Act to make further provision in relation to free travelling facilities for members of the Oireachtas, and for that purpose to amend the Oireachtas (Payment of Members) Act, 1923." The Bill has been before the Committee on Procedure and Privileges, and has been approved by them.

Leave granted.
Bill read a first time. Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 17th July.
