The investigations which would be necessary to enable me to reply fully to these three questions would involve an amount of time and labour on the part of the staff of my Department which I do not consider would be justified. I have stated on many occasions that applications for repayment in respect of subscriptions to the Dáil Eireann (Internal) Loan are being dealt with as expeditiously as possible and the Deputy will realise that the collection of information regarding the large number of cases referred to by him would retard the process of repayment considerably.

In the debate of 22nd June last on the subject of the repayment of this loan I mentioned that I thought inquiries by Deputies should be confined to ascertaining the progress made towards authorising repayment in individual cases which by reason of hardship or exceptional circumstances appear to merit special investigation.
