Vol. 26 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ESTATES VESTED AND TO BE VESTED IN LAND COMMISSION.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the number of estates that have been vested in the Land Commission from January 1st, 1928, to October 1st, 1928, their total acreage and the number of tenants thereon, also the number that remain to be vested, their acreage and the number of tenants thereon.

During the period 1st January, 1928, to 1st October, 1928, 3,146 holdings coming within the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, situate on 425 estates and comprising an area of 123,783 acres, were vested in the Land Commission. The work of surveying, checking and inspection necessary before the lands remaining to be dealt with can be vested in the Land Commission is being proceeded with as rapidly as possible, and 13,623 holdings, comprising 487,000 acres of the 83,577 holdings—comprising some 2,605,000 acres—remaining to be vested have been provisionally gazetted after detailed examination and survey and the disposal of the numerous queries that arise as regards area, tenure, occupancy, rights of turbary, etc.

In view of this very rapid progress, can the Parliamentary Secretary inform us when the vesting of the remainder will be completed?

I cannot inform the Deputy.
