Vol. 27 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POLICE RAIDS IN DROGHEDA.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is a fact that the houses of the president, secretary and treasurer of the Drogheda Fianna Fáil Cumann were raided by members of the Gárda Síochána on November 5th, 1928, and, if so, whether he will state the purpose of the raids and the information on which the Gárda acted.

The houses of six persons in Drogheda were searched on the 5th instant by the police under authority of a search warrant. Amongst the six persons I understand that three of them were president, secretary and treasurer of the Drogheda Fianna Fáil Cumann respectively. The purpose of the search was to find hidden firearms. I am not prepared to state the information on which the police acted.

Does the Minister state that the searches were made for the purpose of discovering firearms?

Is the Minister aware that the Guards in the course of their visit spent the greater portion of their time reading correspondence between the Fianna Fáil headquarters and these individuals?

Will the Minister make inquiries and if that is so, reprimand the Guards concerned?
