Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Town Tenants Commission.

Domhnall O Muirgheasa

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether it is intended to introduce during the present session proposals for legislation implementing the recommendations contained in the Interim Report of the Town Tenants Commission on the Working of the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act, 1899.

It is not anticipated that such legislation will be introduced during the present session.

Is the Minister aware that the Town Tenants Commission looked upon this as a matter of such importance that they made an interim report before they proceeded to deal with the main question of the relations between landlord and tenant, and, in view of that fact, will the Minister take steps to bring in legislation to give effect to the report of the Commission?

A decision on the interim report must be come to in the light of a certain number of other matters in respect of which full and satisfactory information is not at the present moment available. The matters upon which a decision like this should be contingent are important, and I am not able to promise the Deputy that a decision is likely to be taken on the report during the present session.
