Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maxwell and Berry Estates (Co. Cavan).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state when the Farnham, Maxwell and Berry Estates, all of County Cavan, will be vested.

The position as regards the following estates in County Cavan for which proceedings are pending under the Land Act, 1923, is as follows:—

Estate of Lord Farnham (S.3286), comprising some 960 holdings. The estate has been surveyed and the queries arising thereon, together with queries on other matters, are at present engaging the attention of the Commissioners, and when these have been cleared up the publication of the Provisional List will be proceeded with.

Estates of A. Symons and another, Reps. John Maxwell (S.2994), comprising 11 holdings, situate in the townlands of Drumcon and Corcraff (Cootehill); Captain R.S.S. Maxwell, comprising 131 holdings, situate in Ballyhanna and other townlands; James Berry and another, comprising 19 holdings, situate in townlands of Aughnakelly and Legavegra (Swanlinbar); Francis Finlay Berry, comprising 12 holdings, situate in townland of Mullaghmore (Belturbet). These estates have not yet been reached in the order of priority under the Act, but when reached they will be dealt with as rapidly as possible.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say when they will be reached?

I could not.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware of the slump in agriculture and the consequent inability of the tenants to pay their rents, and in view of that will he do what he can to expedite the matter?

We are expediting the work of vesting as far as possible.
