It is suggested that the House might take the motion by Deputy Tierney which is consequential on the amendment that has been carried, if there is no objection to that course.
Senators' Allowances. - Proposal to Appoint Joint Committee.
If there is no objection, I will move:—
"That it is expedient that a Joint Committee consisting of five members of the Dáil and five members of the Seanad be set up to consider and report on the question of the amount of the allowance which should be paid to members of Seanad Eireann."
One or two points were raised on the discussion of my amendment to Deputy Thrift's motion for the Second Reading of his Bill. They had reference to this——
If there is to be a debate, I fear the motion cannot be taken now. It was thought if there was no objection that the motion, which is consequential to the amendment just carried, might be taken.

Before the motion is put, I would like to object to the numbers that will constitute this proposed Committee. I think it is unfair on any Joint Committee that the representation from the Seanad and the Dáil should be equal.
I take it the Deputy desires to move an amendment to the motion?
Yes.
If that is so, I do not think I could take the motion to-day, and perhaps it could be postponed to Wednesday. In the meantime, the Deputy will have an opportunity of putting down his amendment.
I can move my amendment now, and save a lot of time.
No notice has been given. I have had no notice of an amendment to the motion, and if there is any objection, I do not think the motion can be taken now.
