Vol. 28 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Branding of Mackerel.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation providing for the branding of mackerel for export, as indicated in the Government's White Paper on recommendation 158 of the Gaeltacht Commission Report.

I propose to deal with this matter in comprehensive proposals affecting the fishing industry at present before me.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when he proposes to deal with the question of the branding of mackerel?

In the general Bill which is to be brought in before the Summer Recess, I hope.

The Minister has referred to this matter on two occasions, once during the debate on the Ministers and Secretaries Bill, when he said that the Bill was in the hands of the draftsman, and, secondly, in the debate on the Gaeltacht, when he said that it would be introduced in a month. I hope that this promise is not going to take as long to carry out.

I did say then that the Bill was in the hands of the draftsman, but on reconsideration, I thought that it was best to bring all these things into one Bill.

Will the Minister say what summer?
