Vol. 28 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Transferred Civil Servants.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of civil servants in respect of whom returns would have to be made, arising out of (a) a return of civil servants whose basic salary at the time of their services being taken over by the Saorstát was £600 per annum and over, (b) their present salaries, and (c) their stations previous to appointments under the Saorstát.

For the purposes of the information now asked for the present and antecedent positions of all the individuals concerned would have to be traced individually through the Departments in which they are or have been serving, and the time and labour thus involved would be practically equivalent to that necessary for preparing a return of the details under the headings specified in the question. For the reasons stated in my reply to the Deputy's question of the 27th February, such a return should not, I think, be undertaken.
