Vol. 28 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galladoo National School (Bantry).

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that dissatisfaction exists on account of the national school at Galladoo, Kilcrohane, Bantry, being closed for long periods of time owing to the absence of a suitable teacher; that sufficient pupils are on the roll to keep the school open; and if he will take steps on this account to supply a teacher for this school without further delay.

The teacher proposed by the manager of the Galladoo National School, in which a vacancy occurred in September last, did not possess any qualifications in Irish, and could not, under the rules of the Department, be recognised. The appointment of a teacher, subject to the requirements of the regulations of the Department, rests with the manager, and to assist him in securing an eligible teacher, with official qualifications in Irish, my Department is supplying him with the names of candidates from whom, it is hoped, he may be able to select a teacher who is prepared to accept the appointment.
